Lao SNGS second phase aerial photography completed successfully
The original work plan of project ”Strengthening National Geographic Services in Lao PDR” included aerial photography of the southern third of the country, covering about 70,000 km2. The most significant outcome of the Mid-Term Review in August 2012 was a decision to extend the aerial photography and mapping area towards north by 90,000 km2.
The aerial survey campaign was launched in the beginning of December 2012 and completed in the beginning of March 2013. This photography season in Laos was extraordinarily difficult by the weather; and the neighbouring countries Thailand and Vietnam didn’t grant this year border crossing permits. In spite of these obstacles, the campaign was still a great success.
During the campaign altogether 10,200 Vexcel UCXp photos with 45cm GSD were taken and approx. 85,000 km2 was covered.
