Geodetic Surveys

Accurate maps can be produced only if the geodetic horizontal and vertical map reference has been accurately surveyed in the field. The personnel at FINNMAP are experienced and familiar with the latest ground and airborne GPS survey technology together with a scientific approach to any kind of coordinate transformations.

FINNMAP has established new national mapping coordinate systems (i.e. Horizontal Geodetic Datums) in several countries, which serve as an official mapping reference frame in everyday mapping. Required geodetic surveys cover usually smaller areas than an entire country, like mapping a project area of a city, district, dam reservoir or river basin etc. Depending on each particular project, FINNMAP carries out geodetic surveys using GPS technology, spirit levelling or total stations to obtain surveys and computation results in the desired coordinate system.

FINNMAP has utilized Airborne DGPS Photo Control in aerial photography since 1992. The determination of the aerial camera position at the instant of exposure using a differential GPS (DGPS) technique is of a great importance in photogrammetry, where the coordinates of photo projection centers can be introduced as additional observations into combined aerial triangulation and block adjustment. The main advantage of accurate projection centre positions is the considerable reduction in the need for ground control points in the mapping area. Geodetic surveys make the base for mapping. FINNMAP can provide professional mapping services for our clients around the world.
