LiDAR
FINNMAP purchased its first airborne laser scanner in 2007. This new investment strengthened our sensor equipment resources in both domestic and international projects. We are constantly investing to latest LiDAR technology and developing our LiDAR products to serve the needs of our clients and to deliver higher quality.

LiDAR technology is the most efficient way of producing high accuracy DTM:s or DSM:s for wide range of purposes. Digital aerial photography and laser scanning have become more popular means of producing airborne geospatial data. LiDAR delivers data for forest inventories, infrastructure planning, power line corridor mapping, flood management etc. LiDAR technology makes data collection more efficient and speeds up the data collection process. LiDAR is an efficient tool especially over large areas of featureless or densely covered terrain.

The Leica ALS50-II is the second generation version of this LiDAR scanner. Scanner's pulse rate is 150 kHz, which means a maximum of 150 000 registrations per second. Leica informs that the operating altitude of the scanner is 200 - 6000 meters. The scanner can be operated efficiently onboard a helicopter for urban areas or an airplane for mapping of larger areas. A 39 megapixel digital aerial camera is integrated in the system for simultaneous aerial photography. FINNMAP is using Terrasolid´s software for LiDAR data processing.
